TheBoro.ca Phase 2 – A Fresh new way to explore the Downtown Core -
We are proud to announce the official launch of Phase 2 of TheBoro.ca, a newly reimagined website that showcases all that downtown Peterborough has to offer, making it easier than ever for visitors and locals to plan and enhance their downtown experience.
This ambitious redevelopment was made possible through the generous support of Regional Tourism Organization 8 (RT08) through their Partnership Allocation Program, enabling the DBIA to bring a bold vision for a central, user-first visitor platform to life.
Originally developed during the pandemic as an online shopping portal, TheBoro.ca has now evolved into a fully realized digital destination for visitors and residents, aligning with our mission to enhance downtown Peterborough’s economic vitality, community connection and cultural vibrancy.
“TheBoro.ca is more than just a website. It’s a crucial part of our long-term strategy for fostering economic growth and cultural vibrancy in the heart of Peterborough,” says Nour Mazloum, Executive Director of the Peterborough DBIA. “We really want people to feel excited about exploring our downtown, whether they’re visiting us for the first time or just looking for a great way to spend their weekend.”
The Boro brand has become a cornerstone of the DBIA’s destination marketing strategy – helping to tell the story of downtown Peterborough and its people in new and interactive ways. The new platform serves as a central hub for discovering what’s happening downtown Peterborough whether you’re looking for events, local businesses, trip ideas or unique downtown experiences.
It also gives downtown business owners, artists and local event organizers a central stage to share their offerings, helping them to reach new audiences and build stronger connections amongst the community and visitors.
According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, more than 60% of consumers search online before deciding where to shop or dine locally. With the new website’s updated design and user-focused features, the DBIA is ensuring that downtown Peterborough businesses are visible, easy to discover and competitive in today’s digital economy.
Some new features of TheBoro.ca include:
– An Interactive business directory with mapping tools and highly curated categories
– A dynamic events calendar with DBIA-led events and community submissions with everything from live music and customer appreciation events to theatre shows, family festivals and exclusive pop-up events
– Trip-planning content such as self-guided tours and itineraries, local stories and business/artist spotlights and guides
– Integrated connections to the Boro Gift Card, exclusive Boro merchandise and newsletters
Strong digital tools are proven to drive higher event attendance and increased visitor spending. Google reports that 76% of people who search for something nearby on their smartphone visit a business within a day.
With TheBoro.ca, the DBIA is not only strengthening downtown Peterborough’s online presence, but building a lasting platform that connects people to the places, businesses and experiences that make the downtown core truly special.
