New Facade Improvement Grant Now Available
The City of Peterborough has launched a new Facade Improvement Grant Program designed to help downtown property owners refresh, restore, and reinvest in their buildings. If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your storefront, improving curb appeal, or bringing historic features back to life, this program is a strong incentive to get started.
The grant covers 50% of eligible project costs, up to $15,000 per property—with additional funding available for corner lots and properties with multiple street-facing sides. Eligible work may include exterior repairs, architectural restoration, new windows and doors, signage updates, canopies, awnings, and exterior lighting.
To apply, property owners must be located within the Central Area Community Improvement Project Area and must receive written approval from the City before any work begins. A pre-application meeting with City staff is required to confirm eligibility. There is no application fee.
Applicants will need to provide design drawings, photographs of existing conditions, two contractor estimates, and documentation supporting the proposed improvements. Once approved, projects must be completed within one year. Grant funding is released after the work is finished and all invoices have been submitted.
This is a meaningful opportunity to invest in your building, enhance the look and feel of downtown, and improve your business presence.
If you own a building in the designated area and are considering an upgrade, now is the time to explore the program and start planning your project.
